Caustic 3 is a music creation tool that draws inspiration from rack-mount synthesizer/sampler rigs. This app offers real-time functionality and has been optimized for mobile devices.

With Caustic 3, users can create their own customized rack by choosing from a selection of 14 machines, including the Subsynth, PCMSynth, BassLine, BeatBox, PadSynth, 8BitSynth, Modular, Organ, Vocoder, FMSynth, KSSynth, and SawSynth. Each machine brings its own unique capabilities and sound to the table.

Additionally, Caustic 3 features an effects rack that supports up to 2 effects per machine, offering a total of 20 effect types. The mixer desk provides EQ, panning, and global Delay/Reverb effects. The app also includes a master section with effect slots, parametric EQ, and a limiter. To facilitate song creation, Caustic 3 provides a song sequencer as well.

For greater flexibility in audio processing, Caustic 3 supports AudioBus for input and output slots. Users can also utilize AudioCopy Paste and AudioShare for importing and exporting audio. The app allows for automation recording on most controls and provides powerful editors for modifying automation curves.

In addition to the built-in sound library, Caustic 3 allows users to record their own WAV files for use in the PCMSynth, BeatBox, and Vocoder. Furthermore, files can be imported through iTunes file sharing, ACP, AudioShare, or the built-in FTP server. The app supports all uncompressed WAV files with various bit depths and sampling rates. The PCMSynth is also capable of loading SoundFont files (.sf2), SFZ files, and FL/Xewton instruments (.instr, .ZIP).

Caustic 3 supports the "Open In.." import feature for all preset types, WAV files, SF2 files, and MIDI files. MIDI files can be imported as raw sequencer note data. The app provides CoreMIDI and virtual MIDI support for note, velocity, and CC data. However, users are advised to enable the "Enable background audio" option in advanced settings to utilize virtual MIDI.
